Greenland was originally part of the town of Portsmouth, which was first known when settled in 1630 as “Strawbery Banke.” Today it’s well known for its very low taxes, rural feel, and community atmosphere. School age children enjoy Greenland’s Central School and then transfer at the middle school level to nearby Portsmouth Middle and High Schools. Greenland doesn’t have your typical downtown area instead it has a commercial alley located on Rte 33 which is a main route between Portsmouth and Stratham.
